Calm and Clear in the Interview

Find a position where you can rest fully supported, either sitting back or lying down, whichever allows you to feel most at ease. [3 second pause] When you're settled, let your eyes close softly. [4 second pause] That's right. [3 second pause] And now let's begin with something simple.

Feel the weight of your body against the surface supporting you. [6 second pause] Notice where you make contact — the backs of your legs, your shoulders, the curve of your spine. [7 second pause] The surface holds you completely. [6 second pause] You don't have to hold yourself up. [5 second pause] Now bring your awareness to the temperature of the air on your skin. [6 second pause] Perhaps you can feel it on your face, your hands. [6 second pause] Cooler where the air moves. [5 second pause] Warmer where your body rests. [6 second pause] And notice the feeling of your own breath. [5 second pause] The gentle rise. [4 second pause] And fall. [6 second pause] Breath coming in cool and clean. [5 second pause] Breath going out warm and soft. [7 second pause] There's nothing you need to do with your breathing. [5 second pause] It continues on its own, steady and reliable. [6 second pause] And with each exhale, you might notice a subtle loosening. [6 second pause] As though your body is settling a little more deeply into the surface beneath you. [7 second pause] That's right. [5 second pause] Just noticing. [6 second pause] Just feeling. [7 second pause]

And now let your awareness move gently through your body. [6 second pause] Bring your attention to your feet. [6 second pause] Not trying to change anything. [5 second pause] Just noticing what's there. [7 second pause] Perhaps tingling. [4 second pause] Perhaps warmth. [5 second pause] Perhaps nothing at all. [6 second pause] Whatever you feel is exactly right. [6 second pause] Now let awareness drift up to your calves. [6 second pause] The large muscles there, doing nothing. [5 second pause] Resting. [6 second pause] Up to your knees. [5 second pause] Your thighs. [6 second pause] The weight of your legs. [6 second pause] Heavy and supported. [7 second pause] Let awareness move to your hips. [5 second pause] Your lower back. [6 second pause] Notice how the surface holds that curve. [6 second pause] Your belly rising and falling with each breath. [7 second pause] Your chest. [5 second pause] Shoulders. [6 second pause] Arms resting at your sides. [6 second pause] Hands loose and open. [6 second pause] Your neck. [5 second pause] Your jaw. [6 second pause] Let the jaw soften. [6 second pause] Teeth slightly apart. [6 second pause] Tongue resting gently. [6 second pause] Your eyes. [5 second pause] Even behind closed lids, the eyes can soften. [7 second pause] Your whole face smooth and relaxed. [7 second pause] And the top of your head. [6 second pause] All the way down to your toes. [6 second pause] A single field of awareness. [7 second pause] Resting. [6 second pause]

And as you continue to rest, imagine that you're standing at the top of a gentle staircase. [7 second pause] It's a beautiful staircase, wide and curved, with a smooth wooden railing. [7 second pause] Soft light filters down from somewhere above. [6 second pause] With each step you take down these stairs, you go deeper into this calm, relaxed state. [7 second pause] Ten. [8 second pause] Taking the first step down. [7 second pause] Feeling the solid surface under your feet. [7 second pause] Nine. [8 second pause] Another step. [7 second pause] Sinking deeper. [7 second pause] Eight. [8 second pause] Your body feels heavier, more relaxed. [7 second pause] Seven. [8 second pause] Deeper still. [7 second pause] Six. [8 second pause] The light is soft and golden here. [7 second pause] Five. [8 second pause] Halfway down. [7 second pause] Four. [8 second pause] Feeling so peaceful. [7 second pause] Three. [8 second pause] Two. [8 second pause] Almost there. [7 second pause] One. [9 second pause] You step onto the floor at the bottom of the stairs. [8 second pause] Before you is a large, welcoming door. [7 second pause] You turn the handle and step through. [8 second pause] Into a place that is completely your own. [10 second pause] A place where you feel utterly at ease. [8 second pause] Maybe it's a room. [5 second pause] Maybe it's somewhere outdoors. [6 second pause] Whatever your mind creates is exactly right. [8 second pause] Take a moment to feel the air here. [8 second pause] Notice what you sense. [10 second pause] The temperature on your skin. [8 second pause] Perhaps there's a scent in the air. [8 second pause] Something pleasant. [6 second pause] Fresh. [7 second pause] Notice the quality of light around you. [8 second pause] Soft and warm. [7 second pause] And notice what's beneath your feet. [8 second pause] Solid ground. [6 second pause] Supporting you completely. [8 second pause] This is your place of calm. [7 second pause] Your place of strength. [10 second pause]

And from this place of deep calm, your mind can begin to create new patterns. [7 second pause] New ways of being. [6 second pause] You know that your nervous system is learning something important right now. [7 second pause] Learning that you can feel grounded and steady, even when you're thinking about situations that used to feel challenging. [8 second pause] Because that old nervous energy, that tension that used to rise up — it was just a pattern. [7 second pause] And patterns can change. [7 second pause] They change naturally, easily, when you give your mind a new experience. [8 second pause] And that's what's happening now. [7 second pause] Your mind is experiencing a new way to feel when you think about walking into a room, sitting across from someone who wants to learn about you. [8 second pause] And you might notice that the thought of that situation feels different now. [8 second pause] More neutral. [6 second pause] More natural. [7 second pause] Because here's what your deeper mind knows: [7 second pause] You have skills. [6 second pause] You have experience. [6 second pause] You have value that you've built over years of effort and learning. [8 second pause] These things are facts. [6 second pause] They don't disappear because someone is asking you questions. [8 second pause] They don't shrink because you're in an unfamiliar room. [7 second pause] Your abilities are steady. [6 second pause] Your knowledge is steady. [7 second pause] And now, your voice can be steady too. [8 second pause] When you speak about what you can do, you're simply describing what's true. [8 second pause] Not boasting. [6 second pause] Not performing. [6 second pause] Just speaking clearly about facts. [8 second pause] Your mind is learning now that you can feel calm and speak clearly at the same time. [8 second pause] That calm and clarity are natural partners. [7 second pause] And your mind may accept the suggestions that serve you and set aside any that don't — that's fine. [8 second pause] You're learning to trust yourself more each day. [7 second pause] Feeling more confident in your own abilities. [7 second pause] Calm, clear thinking replacing old worry. [8 second pause] Feeling better each and every day. [8 second pause]

And now, before you return to full awareness, I want to offer you something you can use anytime you need it. [7 second pause] A simple anchor you can access on your own. [7 second pause] In a moment, when you need to feel calm and grounded, you can take a slow breath in, and as you exhale, silently count three, two, one, and gently touch your thumb to your forefinger. [9 second pause] That simple gesture can remind your body of this feeling. [7 second pause] This steadiness. [7 second pause] This clarity. [8 second pause] And now it's time to return to full awareness. [7 second pause] I'll count from one to five. [6 second pause] One. [7 second pause] Beginning to return to the room around you. [7 second pause] Two. [7 second pause] Your body feeling comfortable and rested. [7 second pause] Three. [7 second pause] Your mind feeling refreshed and clear. [7 second pause] Four. [7 second pause] Your eyes beginning to open, feeling sparkling and clear. [7 second pause] Five. [7 second pause] Fully aware, taking a deep breath, and feeling ready for whatever comes next. [8 second pause]

Each time you listen to this session, you go deeper more easily. [6 second pause] These changes become more natural, more automatic. [7 second pause] Your mind and body working together, helping you walk into any interview feeling calm and speaking clearly. [8 second pause] Take this feeling with you into your day.
